Commuters to be clobbered again by First ScotRail2.33.14pm GMT Tue 28th Nov 2006
Iain Dale, Convenor of Cunninghame Liberal Democrats, has reacted angrily to the news that First ScotRail are again to raise ticket prices by an inflation busting 4.3%. The rises in fares takes place in January. Iain said "As a commuter between Irvine and Glasgow it outrages me that First ScotRail have again been allowed to soak the travelling public with another above-inflation price hike." "When I started commuting just under 4 years ago my weekly ticket was around £28. As of January this will rise to just under £35. How can First ScotRail justify their greed when the service provided often falls below customer expectations. Trains are often late on the Ayrshire line and passengers regularly face miserable journeys standing all the way to Glasgow when 3 carriage trains run." "I hope that First ScotRail management are going to explain this price-hike to angry passengers themselves rather than allowing their hard working station and train staff to feel the brunt of customer dissatisfaction." Iain added: "I urge my fellow commuters to contact First ScotRail directly to express their dismay. They can be emailed at: scotrailcustomer.relations@firstgroup.com Written to at: First ScotRail customer Relations, PO Box 7030, Fort William. PH33 6WX Telephoned on: 0845 601 5929"
