Jim Hume tops South of Scotland Regional List2.48.57pm GMT Thu 11th Jan 2007
The Scottish Liberal Democrats have selected farmer and businessman Jim Hume to top the South of Scotland list for the May 2007 elections to the Scottish Parliament. Jim, whose family has strong Ayrshire roots, has lived and worked all his life within the South of Scotland region and now runs the family's livestock farm in the Borders with his wife, two sons and a daughter. A Lib-Dem spokesman said " Over many years Jim Hume has shown great commitment to the area, serving in various capacities on boards and representative committees of the National Farmers' Union for Scotland. He has also served on the South of Scotland's regional Forestry forum and is currently on the board of his Scottish Enterprise Local Enterprise Company, with a particular interest in rural restructuring." On his appointment Jim commented "I feel privileged to top the Lib-Dem list in this area. I have spent my whole life in the region and I have a record which demonstrates my commitment to serving the wider community. I am driven by a wish to achieve improvements for our people and I will do my utmost to get a better deal for this area. " I know folk are fed up with the Labour party and I know that many people find the SNP policies of confrontation with Westminster unattractive. I hope that voters in Ayrshire, and across the South of Scotland, will acknowledge that the Lib-Dems have worked effectively at Holyrood and will consider giving us their positive support in the vote for the regional list. By voting in May for the Scottish Liberal Democrats, electors can ensure that they are represented by someone who knows and cares deeply about the region and who will work tirelessly on their behalf."
