Ruby Kirkwood working for Irvine East

Though born outside Carlisle, I have lived and worked in Irvine for over 20 years, and am now well regarded at the Irvine based company for whom I work.

My previous roles include banking and working for an electronics company in Irvine.

I was educated upto the age of 12 near Carlisle (Warwicksland Primary School and a Secondary School in Longtown) and then achieved assorted qualifications at the old Irvine Royal Academy before doing an HNC in Business Studies at the Irvine Annex of Kilmarnock College.

It was also a fun and rewarding experience to be a member of the Irvine Sea Cadets for two years.

I have been active in helping the LibDems in Scotland (and nationally) by;

- serving as Vice Convenor of the South of Scotland Lib Dem regional Party

- being a member of the Association of Scottish Liberal Democrat Councillors & Campaigners

- serving as Secretary of Ayrshire & Arran Lib Dems.

- helping Jo Swinson to victory in the East Dumbartonshire seat at the general election.

- assisting in the successful Cheadle by election.

- travelling to the EU parliament in Brussels on two fact finding trips.

- being a member of the Women's Liberal Democrats.

- Stewarding at LibDem conferences in Scotland.

- being an active supporter of my LibDem colleagues in Ayrshire.

In my private life I live with three cats and an exuberant and energetic (and not to mention mischievous), but wholly affectionate West Highland Terrier called Hamilton. He is my incentive to enjoy walking in the beautiful Ayrshire countryside. I also enjoy historical literature and period drama and appreciate the history of our nation. Having just passed my driving test I am also more able to enjoy my hobbies and help my LibDem colleagues.
